Same Warren group rescued a litter of kittens from a fire four years ago
Then, she was dumped like trash in the frigid cold to fend for herself.
That's when someone spotted the 5-year-old Siamese-mix early last month, contacted a city animal shelter, which then notified Warren-based Feline Friends
Rescue because it doesn't euthanize unwanted cats.
"This is a direct result of human torture," said Karen Dombrowski, Feline Friends president.
This is the same group that nursed back to health a litter of kittens rescued from a fire four years ago. The sole survivors, Sooty and Blaze, were adopted by
a Troy couple, who now live in Florida.
They are hopeful K.C., named after KC and the Sunshine Band, will have the same opportunity for a good home. She'll be put up for adoption in about a
month. Today, she's recovering from her past, they say.
When she came in, she was slightly more than 4 pounds, infested with fleas, anemic, and her face and front paws were singed. The volunteer group spent around
$500 on veterinarian visits, vitamins, antibiotics and food. Since then, her weight has nearly doubled and discolored fur has replaced bald patches.
In 20 years as a vet, Dr. Tina Ruiz, who treated K.C. at the Kitty Clinic in Clinton Township, never saw anything like it. Her colleagues at other practices,
however, told her they have also seen more animals abused by drug addicts.
"It's a very sad situation in our society," she said.
Because K.C. was not found in anyone's care, no one will face animal abuse charges.
Still, the cruelty hasn't broken her spirit.
"She is so trusting and just so loving to people," Dombrowsi said, petting the purring feline.
